The Judges Lodgings' is now closed until March 2024, apart from our Victorian Christmas weekend on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd December 2023. See events for more information.
Thomas Butler Cole who had inherited the house in 1811, sold the New Hall to the County Magistrates in 1826 for £1500 to be used as the official Lancaster residence for visiting circuit judges when attending trials at the Castle. In 1888 The Judges’ Lodgings became administered by the newly formed Lancashire County Council.
