The Wash House and Servants’ Yard
Over the last few months the team have been restoring the original servant’s yard and washhouse on the south side of the House. Hidden away and overlooked for many years, it’s now ready to tell the stories of the housekeepers and maids that kept the building looking its best. You can now visit the restored washhouse to experience the sights, sounds and smells of wash day without hot, running water or electricity. This is also a lovely space to relax in with a new bench and planters that will grow in the years to come. There is now interpretation about the coal shed and an outdoor servants privy. It looks occupied but maybe you should give a knock- we dare you!
