Welcome to our new manager Rachael Jackson

Rachael with some of The Friends' Committee

We are delighted to welcome Rachael as new manager of The Judge’s Lodgings and we look forward to working with her.

Rachael is excited to be joining the team at the Judges’ Lodgings. She studied History at university and completed an MA in Art Gallery and Museum Studies in 2008 while volunteering with Lancashire Museums. Since then, she has worked in a range of roles across Greater Manchester and Lancashire, including the redevelopment of the Museum of Lancashire and twelve years as Assistant Manager at Lancaster Castle.

More recently, Rachael has been Education Officer for Heritage Learning Lancashire, developing and delivering learning sessions across Lancashire’s museums (including the new ‘Lancashire Witches’ session at the Judges’ Lodgings). You may well have seen Rachael on site delivering learning sessions to children dressed as a Victorian housekeeper!

Rachael has a love of history, storytelling and a keen interest in costume and textiles collections. Born and bred in Lancaster, she has two boys who keep her busy outside of work. She’s also an enthusiastic gardener (with an overgrown allotment) and enjoys sewing and attempting to make costumes.

The photo was taken at Rachael’s first Friends’ Committee meeting
