The Friends’ Regency Ball
Wow, what a night! The Regency Ball finally happened on Saturday 22nd November at Lancaster Golf Club after a year of planning. It was a wonderful, magical evening for all the guests.
The Golf Club was decorated for Christmas and there were three log fires burning which created a lovely atmosphere as guests arrived. After a drink in the bar, the purchase of raffle tickets, we all moved into the Ashton Room, where all the tables were named after Jane Austn houses such as Pemberly and Northanger Abbey. A delicious two course Christmas themed meal was enjoyed by all.
Mistress Clare and the dancers accompanied by The Regency Regigged musicians then demonstrated a Regency dance. We were then encouraged to take part in a number of circular and linear dancers. The dance floor was packed all evening and the dancers were great at encouraging and partnering us, often gently correcting us when we didn’t know our left from our right.
It was great to know that the staff and Friends had a good time but also that a group from the University came, friends of Friends and also some couples that had just seen posters up in Lancaster.
My thanks go to The Golf Club for making the evening run smoothly, Mistress Clare, dancers and musicians for making us all have a fun time dancing, The Friends committee for making the evening actually happen and everyone who came and had a wonderful evening.
Guests were asking at the end of the evening if we were going to have another Ball and my response is possibly but not in 2026!
